CLEVELAND —
Storm Threat Returns Today
Multiple rounds of storms are expected to move through Northeast Ohio today, with some storms becoming severe. Heavy rain is the biggest concern, especially where storms track repeatedly over the same areas, leading to localized flooding. The strongest storms may also produce damaging wind gusts capable of downing tree limbs and causing isolated power outages. Don't forget about lightning either. If thunder roars, head indoors.
Storm timing looks focused on this afternoon and evening, with a couple waves of activity possible. There may be breaks in the rain, but don't let those fool you into thinking the threat is over. Highs climb into the lower 80s before a cold front sweeps through tonight.
Power of 5 Spotlight: CLE Metro Region
The Cleveland Metro region will likely see storms arrive during some of the busiest hours of the day. That means anyone heading to festivals, sporting events, or other outdoor plans this afternoon and evening should stay weather-aware. Brief downpours could quickly lead to ponding on roads and reduced visibility for drivers.
It'll be a warm and mostly dry start for Browns fans heading to Huntington Bank Field for the 1 p.m. kickoff, but keep an eye on the forecast if you're staying through the entire game. Storms are expected to develop and become more numerous later this afternoon, meaning some fans could be dealing with lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds by the second half or shortly after the game ends. While flooding is the main concern today, any warnings that are issued will likely be for damaging wind gusts. Have a way to receive weather alerts and be prepared to head to shelter if storms approach.
Looking ahead: Drier and cooler
Saturday storms are being brought to us by a cold front. That front will cross through NEO this weekend and drop our temperatures 5-10 degrees between Saturday and Sunday. There will be an isolated shot at a t-shower on Sunday, but there should be a lot more dry time compared to Saturday.
Below-average temperatures will linger into the work week. Highs on Monday could be in the low 70s! It will be comfortable and dry until mid-week. The taste of fall does not last long... we will be back into the upper 70s and low 80s by the middle of the week, along with more storm chances.
