Scattered rain throughout the day with potential for flooding in areas near creeks and rivers

CLEVELAND — Bring out the rain gear today as widespread rain will move into the area, potentially flooding areas near creeks and rivers. While temperatures will be a bit closer to normal, it’s a little deceiving since it will be mixed with rain.

Some area may even have to deal with some heavy rain. Our flood chances today from the rain are mainly south of Akron.

The National Weather Service has issued a Lakeshore Flood Warning for Sandusky, Erie, Ottawa and Lucas counties as water levels are high this morning.

Surprising enough, the Flood Warnings in effect near the lakeshore are not related to the rain. It's all about wind direction and the high water levels we've had on Lake Erie for the last year or so.

Northeast winds slashing water southwest through the lake. Rising water levels on one side while actually dropping levels on the opposite side. Roads and properties on lower levels, including parking lots, lawns, homes and businesses will be inundated near the lake, with some shoreline erosion occurring.

The good news is Friday dries out, but the chill air again will make a return to begin a weekend filled with a big warm-up and cool-down. Temperatures will be near 60 degrees Saturday and in the 40s Sunday.
