TWINSBURG, Ohio — The Humane Society of Summit County announced that Geronimo, the dog that has been waiting more than three years to find his forever home, has officially been adopted.

Geronimo was waiting to be adopted from the Humane Society for 1,145 days before he was taken home by his new family on Saturday.

The staff and volunteers at the Humane Society of Summit County worked tirelessly to get the six-year-old dog adopted during his time at the shelter.

Most dogs are adopted within a month and a half, according to the Humane Society.

Geronimo, an American Staffordshire terrier, pit bull terrier and mastiff mix, was rescued by the Humane Society in December 2015 after being found crated in the snow, suffering from a heartworm infection and severe emaciation.
