MENTOR, Ohio — "Black Lives Matters-Lake County" will hold a peaceful protest and rally Friday evening in honor of Juneteenth. Organizers encourage everyone to come out to peacefully march to protest police violence and racial injustices.

“While our main focus is on the lives of black Americans, it has been far too long that issues related to racism, discrimination, citizenship, sexual orientation, and genetic information have been only a conversation. These communities are hurting and need healing, healing that only comes from solving the root issues while partnering to address cultural barriers,” organizers said in a statement.

Participants are asked to meet at the Great Lakes Mall, 7850 Mentor Avenue, at 6 p.m. Participants can park at the Barnes and Noble parking lot.

You can watch a live-stream of the event from AirTracker 5. You can watch it in the player below:

The march will begin at the green space in front of the Macy’s parking lot to Garfield Park.

There will be a total of four speakers, with two people speaking on why African American history should become part of the regular history curriculum.
