COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 6,701 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 799,639.
Key Metrics
The number of new cases today is lower than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 7,372. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 707,885 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 89% of total cases.
There were 664 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today. Cleveland reported 184 new cases and one death.
There have now been 9,881 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 79 new deaths were reported today, higher than the 21-day average of 72.
As of today, 656,433 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.
The median age of patients is 43 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 111 years old.
Hospitalizations
The ODH reported 288 new hospitalizations today, with 15 ICU admissions. There are currently 3,923 COVID-19 patients in Ohio's hospitals, and 959 COVID-19 patients in the ICU.
Non-COVID patients are currently occupying 59.75% of the state's hospital beds, according to ODH. COVID-positive patients account for 14.10%, leaving 26.15% of beds currently available. COVID patients make up 19.67% of the state's ICU beds, non-COVID patients are occupying 58.78% of ICU beds, and 23.55% of ICU beds are currently open.
Testing
There were 23,356 tests done on Monday, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 15.8% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 13%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.
Vaccinations
To date, the COVID-19 vaccine has been started in 338,778 people in Ohio, which is 2.90% of the state's population. The vaccine has been started in 17,299 people in the last 24 hours.
Ohio has not yet reported data on how many Ohio residents have received the second dose of the vaccine.
