Ohio reports 1,733 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, a new high for the state

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 1,733 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, a new record, bringing the total number of cases to 89,626.

The number of new cases today is the highest number of daily cases reported yet. Nine of the 10 highest daily case totals have come in the last three weeks, Governor Mike DeWine said Thursday. Today's total is nearly 400 cases above the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is currently 1,347. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 84,862 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 94% of total cases.

There were 124 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today.

In Cleveland, 23 new confirmed cases were reported Thursday evening. That brings the total number of cases in Cleveland to 4,178. Eighty-three people in Cleveland have died from the virus.

There have now been 3,442 coronavirus-related deaths across the state, an increase of 20 over the previous day, just under than the 21-day average of 21.

The ODH reported 125 new hospitalizations today, with 21 ICU admissions.

As of today, 64,311 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.

There were 25,077 tests done on July 28, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 6% percent were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 6.1%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.

The median age of patients is 42 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 109 years old.
