CORTLAND, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is investigating after a 41-year-old woman died while swimming at Mosquito Lake State Park on Monday at around 5 p.m. in Trumbull County, according to a new release from state officials.
The 41-year-old woman was in a designated swimming area of the lake with a 12-year-old child, when she was found unresponsive.
Bystanders attempted to perform CPR until EMS arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The cause of death is undetermined at this time, pending the Trumbull County Coroner's Report.
The 12-year-old child was transported to the hospital.
ODNR encourages young and less experienced swimmers to use life jackets or personal flotation devices while in the water.
