16-year-old charged with murder for Canton homicide

CANTON, Ohio — Police officers and members of an FBI task force arrested a teen Wednesday for a fatal shooting that happened last week in Canton.

The suspect, a 16-year-old boy, has been charged with murder and improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, according to Canton police.

Police responded to 9th Street and Rowland Avenue NE on Aug. 20. for a report of shots fired.

Officers searched the area and found the victim in the 1200 block of Nelson Place lying near a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

The name of the victim has not been released.
