AKRON, Ohio — Two Akron residents were taken to the hospital early Saturday morning following a residential fire on the city's Southeast side.

The fire happened in the 500 block of Inman Street. A neighbor called the fire department when she realized the windows in her home were melting, according to Akron Fire Department officials.

When crews arrived on scene, the home was fully-involved.

Two residents had already made it out of the house when firefighters pulled up. They were taken to the burn unit of a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The family's dog was located in the backyard and was unharmed, officials said.

As firefighters worked to keep the fire from spreading, the house eventually collapsed in on itself. Crews remained on scene to douse hot spots, officials said.

Firefighters are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
