AKRON, Ohio — Akron detectives are investigating the death of a 23-year-old woman who was shot Wednesday night.
According to police, the shooting happened in the 500 block of Hoye Avenue.
Authorities said Willquian Jews was in an altercation with another woman around 9:30 p.m.
Jews was shot in the chest and was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General where she died, police said.
"There was some unknown altercation, not sure what it was about, and then the shooter produced a handgun and shot the victim," said Lt. Michael Miller.
Police have developed a suspect and searched for her throughout Thursday. Her name was not released.
There have been 35 murders in Akron in 2020. There were 33 in all of 2019.
