AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating after a 3-year-old girl and a man were shot during a home invasion robbery Sunday night, police said.

Officers responded to the 600 block of Crouse Street at about 11:30 p.m.

The residents inside the home told police they were counting money on the living room floor when two people forced their way in from the back door and entered the living room, police said.

According to the residents, one person was armed with a handgun and the other person started fighting with a male resident.

One of the intruders fired a shot, striking the male resident in the right calf and a 3-year-old girl in the knee.

The two intruders grabbed over $7,000 in cash from the living room floor before fleeing in an unknown direction.

The male was taken to Akron City Hospitals and the 3-year-old was transported to Akron Children's Hospital. Both were taken with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two intruders were described as wearing black masks and dark clothing.
