Akron couple arrested for allegedly attacking man with chainsaw

Posted

An Akron man was hospitalized Tuesday night after he was allegedly attacked with a chainsaw by his former roommate and the roommate's girlfriend.

When police responded to the 800 block of Baird Street around 9 p.m., they found the victim sitting on a living room couch covered in blood.

The victim told police his former roommate, 32-year-old William Mitchell, and Mitchell's girlfriend, 23-year-old Aliya M. Wiley came to his house and the three of them started arguing over a debt.

According to police, Mitchell and the victim got into a fight and the two men fell on the floor next to a chainsaw that was sitting in the room.

Both men fought over the chainsaw but Mitchell was able to overpower the victim and hit him with the power tool's blade, police said.

The victim tried to run out of the house but the couple dragged him back inside, according to authorities. Wiley then grabbed the chainsaw and hit the victim on the back and legs, police said.

Eventually, the victim was able to escape and run to a neighbor's house for help.

The victim was taken to Akron City Hospital and was last reported to be in serious condition.

Both suspects showed up at the same hospital a short time later for a cut on Mitchell's hand, police said.

Mitchell and Wiley were arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault and taken to the Summit County Jail.
