Akron firefighters battle Grant Street fire

Posted

Akron firefighters battled towering flames and thick smoke at an old radiator shop at 994 Grant Street just before 11 p.m. Sunday.

The first calls came in just before 10:50 p.m. Sunday for a fire in the former Stoney's Radiator Service at 994 Grant Street, right next door to the Salvation Army.

When firefighters arrived they found thick smoke pouring from the building and flames shooting from the rear of the building.

Grant Street was closed from Morgan Avenue to East Miller Avenue while crews battled the flames.

Witnesses and neighbors said the building was only being used for storage and they rarely saw anyone around the property.

The fire was under control just after 12:30 a.m. Monday.

The cause is under investigation.
