Akron man, 52, pleads guilty to robbing bank

Michael Williams, 52, of Akron, pled guilty to robbing a bank inside a local market, Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced on Monday.

Williams was sentenced to seven years in prison by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Lynne Callahan.

Williams, whose trial was scheduled to begin on Monday, pled guilty to aggravated robbery with a firearm specification, a first-degree felony.

According to the prosecutor, on November 4, 2015, Williams walked into the ACME Fresh Market on State Road in Cuyahoga Falls, went directly to the teller window of the US Bank inside the store, and handed the teller a note that said, "Give me all the money from the draw, this is not a game. You have 30 seconds, or I will blow your head off. If I pull this gun, I'm gonna [explicit] use it."

After receiving the money, Williams got into a car driven by Timothy Rogers, the prosecutor reported. A short time later, police pulled over their car for a no headlight violation. During the traffic stop, officers were notified of the bank robbery and the robbery suspect's car matched the one which was pulled over.

The prosecutor explained once Williams completes his prison sentence, he will have two more years to serve for violating his federal parole for a previous bank robbery.

Timothy Rogers faces charges of complicity to aggravated robbery with a firearm specification. His trial was scheduled for May 5, the prosecutor said.
