Quick action by two Akron police officers may have saved the life of a golfer on Monday.

Officers John Turnure and David Zarembka were dispatched to the J. E. Good Park Golf Course just before noon after a golfer collapsed on the ninth green.

The golfer, David Meeker, was not conscious or breathing so the veteran cops performed CPR.

"We just started compressions and me and Officer Zarembka just traded off as it went, waiting for EMS," Turnure said.

Meeker was taken to Akron General Medical Center where he was listed in serious condition on Tuesday.

"You just go into it without thinking about it and do what you need to help that person," Zarembka said.

Meeker was a candidate in the 1987 Akron mayoral race.
