Akron woman allegedly commits welfare fraud totaling nearly $140,000

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron woman was arrested Friday for fraudulently receiving welfare benefits totaling nearly $140,000 over nine years, authorities said.

Amy M. Land, 42, is charged with illegal use of food stamps, a third-degree felony; tampering with records, a third-degree felony and theft, a fourth-degree felony, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say Land reported false information to the Summit County Department of Jobs and Family Services to receive $138,174 in food stamps and child care between 2011 and 2019.

Following her arrest, Land was transported to the Summit County Jail.
