Akron woman charged for stabbing 70-year-old at grocery store, breaking store windows

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police have arrested a woman who they say stabbed a 70-year-old customer at a grocery in Akron Thursday morning.

According to authorities, Gabrielle Bennett, 25, of Akron, is facing felonious assault and vandalism charges.

The incident happened at a grocery store in the 1400 block of S. Arlington Street around. 7:30 a.m.

Police say Bennett was seen walking around the grocery store with a small knife. At some point, Bennett allegedly approached a 70-year-old woman and stabbed her in the back.

According to authorities, Bennett was throwing canned goods at the storefront windows when officers arrived on scene. Two of the windows shattered.

Bennett was taken into custody without incident and then transported to the Summit County Jail following her arrest.

The 70-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
