Canton firefighters battled towering flames at a business near Monument Park late Wednesday into the early morning hours of Thursday.
The first call came in just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday for a fire at Canton Hardwood Sales in the 1400 block of 8th Street NW.
Flames tore through the building for about three hours, causing major damage to the building and the wood inventory inside the building.
Smoke towered from the scene and was visible in the lights at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, about a mile north of the fire scene.
AEP shutdown a substation that was right next door to the fire, causing about 700 people to lose power in the immediate area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
