CANTON, Ohio — Canton is hiring four people who can multitask, type more than 35 words per minute and can help firefighters and police navigate directions to complete its staff for the new state-of-the-art Central Communications Dispatch Center.

Dispatchers are stationed in a circular office space at the police headquarters downtown. They serve city police, firefighters and medics as well as the Louisville and East Canton police and Greentown firefighter and medics.

The center currently has four to five emergency dispatchers per shift, but four telecommunicators are needed after four dispatchers transferred to other city jobs, leaving the center short-staffed, according to the Canton Repository.

Applicants who are interested in applying are asked to submit applications and a copy of a driver's license by March 8.

The job pays well with "excellent benefits," according to the Canton Police Departments Facebook page.

The pay scale ranges from $18.34 to $24.72.

Applicants need to be a U.S. citizen with a high school diploma and the ability to work various shifts, holidays and weekends, according to Canton police. Applications are available here.

Once the applications are done, they can be submitted in person at Civil Services, 218 Cleveland Avenue Southwest (3rd floor) or by email at jobs@cantonohio.gov.
