Bender returned home to a back door that had been kicked in, and a basement that had been ransacked.
Thieves stole tools and a rubber container.
Bender said the container held several school awards her 11-year-old son had earned, and her mother's ashes.
"It hurts. That is what we had left of my mom," said Bender. "How do you explain to an 11-year-old that his whole life of memories is gone and he has to start over?"

Bender soon discovered more had been taken, including tax documents and her roommate's 5-month-old son's clothes.
"What are you going to do with a baby's clothes?" asked Bender.
The Akron Police report states a neighbor saw a black Ford Taurus or similar style car with a loud muffler in the backyard of the home when Bender and her roommate were gone.
The neighbor said they saw a white man driving, and a black man in the front passenger seat and a white woman in the back passenger seat.
