Posted

Akron police say the driver of a car that was torn open when the driver hit a guardrail on Interstate 76 west should survive his injuries.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. Wednesday when the driver lost control at the entrance ramp to Route 8, hitting a guardrail.

The impact was so severe that it tore both passenger side doors and the passenger front seat from the car. Both doors and the seat were lying in the grass next to the destroyed car.

No other cars were involved in the crash.

Akron police said, had there been a passenger in the car, that person would have likely been killed.

The driver was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Police believe he will survive.

The right lane of I-76 westbound and the ramp to Route 8 north were closed in the area during the accident investigation.
