Five people in a stolen car were injured when the driver took off from Akron police about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police, they attempted to stop the car on Hartford Avenue after it fit the description of car used in an earlier robbery. Police said that as soon as they activated their lights the driver took off but crashed into a light pole just seconds later at the intersection of Hartford Avenue and Lawton Avenue.

One person was trapped inside the car and had to be freed by Akron firefighters. All five people were taken to local hospitals for a wide range of injuries.

Police said the car was stolen but it was unknown if the occupants were involved in the earlier robbery.
