AKRON, Ohio — The City of Akron, in partnership with Akron Public Schools, is participating in the Summer Food Service Program, which will offer free meals to children during the summer months.

All children ages 1 through 18 are eligible to receive free meals. Those who are 19 through 21 who have been identified as having mental or physical disabilities and are following Individualized Education Programs at their schools are eligible for the free meal program.

“There is nothing more important than making sure our young people have the nutrition they need to grow, learn, and live healthy, productive lives,” Mayor Dan Horrigan said in a statement. “Research tells us that children who are hungry or food insecure are less likely be in good health, to form friendships, to be curious, and to learn. Through the Summer Food Service Program, we are able to continue to offer our children these essential meals at no cost throughout the summer, so that our students can return to class in the fall healthy and ready to learn.”

The summer food sites will be serving free breakfast and lunch to all students throughout Akron, Barberton and Cuyahoga Falls.
