Akron police are working to determine what led up to a drive-by shooting that left one person hospitalized early Tuesday.
Akron detectives say the victim was shot while attending a barbecue at a home along Wildwood Avenue just after 1:15 a.m.
The crime scene stretched along Wildwood Avenue from Fernwood Avenue to the curve that leads to Hoye Avenue.
Crime scene technicians marked eight shell casings with yellow evidence markers near the sidewalk at the intersection of Wildwoood and Fernwood avenues. Another area of shell casings was marked a few houses down. newsnet5.com's overnight news tracker said it appeared that at least one house was hit by gunfire.
The victim showed up at Akron General Medical Center a few minutes after police received 911 calls regarding the shooting.
Detectives said they believe the man will survive. No information about his condition was immediately available.
No suspect descriptions have been released.
