A man was accidentally shot while he was sitting in the car with another person who was drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, and playing with a gun, according to Akron police.
The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. Thursday morning on the 300 block of Stanton Avenue, police said.
The passenger, 26-year-old Demotrielle Woodall, was charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and negligent assault and taken to Summit County Jail.
According to police, Woodall said he accidentally fired the shot. The victim was struck in the neck, police said.
The victim, who was the driver of the car, was taken to Akron City Hospital and is currently listed in serious condition.
Woodall is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 17.
