One person was injured in a shooting Wednesday afternoon just blocks from the University of Akron campus.

The shooting happened around 2:40 p.m. near Rentschler and Power streets—about three blocks from Buchtel Field.

A witness described the shooter as a black male wearing a blue hoodie and gray sweatpants. He was accompanied by two other black males, one wearing a red shirt and the other, a black and yellow hoodie.

They were seen on video driving north on Rentschler Street in a silver car.

The victim was taken to Akron General Medical Center for treatment. University of Akron officials said early indications appear the victim is not a student.

University of Akron administrators sent an email to students with information about the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call the university’s police department at 330-972-2911.
