AKRON, Ohio — A local organization is helping girls from area high schools find the prom dress of their dreams for free.

Since 2001, members of the volunteer service organization Altrusa International has helped make prom dreams come true for more than 1,700 girls by providing them with a free prom dress.

The Princess Night Project is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Family of Faith United Methodist Church in Akron.

Any girl who attends the event can choose from over 1,000 gowns hanging by size.

The organization only asks for the name of the girl's school and how she heard about the Princess Night Project.

Once a girl is registered, she can select a gown.

Altrusa is accepting donations of new or gently-used prom gowns, shoes, jewelry, purses and wraps.

Donations can be dropped off at locations in Ellet, Stow-Munroe Falls, Kent and West Akron.
