Peewee football game stopped due to gunfire in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — A youth football game was interrupted by gunfire in Akron Saturday evening, according to a report from Akron police.

Officers were called to the 900 block of Moeller Avenue around 5:15 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.

A caller reported hearing five to six shots before seeing two men run towards Vernon Odom Boulevard. Officers who were nearby also heard the gunfire.

The shots forced children who were playing in peewee football games at nearby Lane Field to leave the field until the threat was over.

Police spoke with multiple citizens who were unable to identify the shooter or any victims.

Several shell casings were found in the 900 block of Moeller Avenue.
