AKRON, Ohio — An Akron store clerk was taken to the hospital after being pistol-whipped during a robbery Thursday morning, according to police.

The robbery happened around 8 a.m. in the 100 block of Ira Avenue.

A man wearing a ski mask and wielding a gun walked inside, went behind the counter and demanded money from the register, authorities said.

The robber hit the clerk in the face with a gun when the employee got flustered and didn't move fast enough, according to police. The robber then ran from the store empty-handed.

EMS transported the clerk to a nearby hospital for treatment.
