A 20-year-old man was arrested after opening fire on a car driving around Akron on Saturday.

Just after 1 a.m., officers at a business on South Arlington Street, near East Wilbeth Road, heard shots fired from the area of Wilbeth Arlington Homes.

Police said as officers drove into the area, they saw a man running eastbound on Barbara Avenue towards Sylvan Avenue. After a brief foot chase, officers arrested the man, identified as Quashane Rashawn Varner, 20, of Tallmadge.

Additional officers found four adults in the 800 block of Ina Court. The adult told police they were riding in a 2013 Kia Optima when Varner started firing shots at the car. The driver attempted to drive away, but then hit a tree. The car was hit several times by bullets, but no injuries were reported.

Police recovered the .40 caliber handgun Varner used in the shooting, which was located underneath a nearby car.

Police charged Varner with four counts of felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons under disability, obstructing official business, and possession of marijuana. He was booked in Summit County Jail.
