A woman died following a home invasion Thursday morning in East Akron.
The death is being investigated as a homicide.
Melody Tomey, 55, of Cuyahoga Falls, was found unresponsive in a a bedroom and died later at an Akron hospital, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner.
According to police, four people were inside 1260 Brittain Road when two males wearing bandanas forced their way into an apartment and demanded money around 1:30 a.m.
The victims were pistol-whipped and a large amount of money was stolen.
Tomey complained that she didn't feel well. Officers offered to call EMS, but she refused, according to Captain Dan Zampelli.
Tomey went into a bedroom while officers interviewed other witnesses.
When detectives arrived, Tomey was found unresponsive. She was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police have not released any information on possible suspects.
A cause of death has not been determined.
