19-year-old shot, killed in Cleveland parking lot

CLEVELAND — A 19-year-old male was shot and killed in a parking lot during a fight, according to Cleveland police.

On Saturday around 9:55 p.m., officers were called to Avalon Road and Euclid Avenue for reports of a man shot inside of a vehicle, police said.

Once on scene, officers located the vehicle and provided aid to a 19-year-old male, identified as Elias Lipford, who had been shot in the head and body, according to police.

EMS arrived on scene and continued providing aid but Lipford was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of Popeyes and may have been related to the sale and purchase of a firearm, according to police.

The 19-year-old who was shot was in a vehicle driven by a female. The two met with another 19-year-old male in the parking lot and a fight broke out and shots were fired, police said.

After the shooting, the female driver fled the parking lot but crashed near Gourmet Deli on Euclid Avenue.

Officers located the suspected shooter in Euclid. He was taken to University Hospitals, treated and arrested, police said.

A firearm was recovered during the arrest of the suspected shooter police said.

The shooting remains under investigation.
