2 fatal Monday night shootings connected, police say

CLEVELAND — Cleveland police said two fatal Monday night shootings are connected.

The shooting happened in the 8000 block of Detroit Avenue around 10 p.m.

A 17-year old was found shot in the middle of an intersection after a carjacking.

Police said the teen was reportedly driving home from playing soccer, when the unknown man shot him and stole his car.

Officers administered first aid to to the victim, who had a gunshot wound to his clavicle, police said. He was taken by EMS to MetroHealth where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection when an unknown man ran up to the car and entered the rear seat, police said. Residents heard gunshots, and the victim was found in the intersection. The vehicle was gone.

Police said they responded to another fatal shooting just before this incident at 85th Street and Detroit Avenue.

A 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police did not specify how the shootings were connected.

No arrests have been made.
