26-year-old woman found shot, killed on Cleveland highway

CLEVELAND — Cleveland police are investigating after a 26-year-old woman was found shot and killed on a Cleveland highway early Saturday morning.

Around 12:45 a.m., officers responded to Interstate 90 westbound for reports of a female shot.

Further information directed officers to Interstate 77 north where the woman was found about 1,000 feet south of the Woodland Avenue/East 30th Street exit in the high-speed berm.

The 26-year-old woman was unresponsive and not breathing when officers arrived and EMS pronounced the woman dead at the scene, police said.

According to police, the woman, identified by the medical examiner as Darnesha Johnson, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and neck area.

Members of the homicide unit were called to the scene. Interviews with witnesses were conducted and multiple people had seen the woman down and called 911.

Police said no arrests have been made at this time and the shooting remains under investigation.
