3-year-old shot in hand Tuesday night is at least the 4th child shot in Cleveland in a week

CLEVELAND — A 3-year-old boy was shot in the hand while traveling in a vehicle with his mother in Cleveland’s Corlett neighborhood Tuesday night.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. near East 131st Street and Harvard Avenue, according to a Cleveland police report.

The child was in the vehicle with his mother when shots were fired from an unknown location and struck the vehicle, police said. No other injuries were reported.

The child was taken by a private vehicle to a nearby hospital, then transferred to Rainbow Babies Children’s Hospital for care, police said.

This is at least the fourth child to be shot in Cleveland in the last week.

  • A 12-year-old was shot in the hand by an unknown suspect in the 600 block of East 102nd Street on Monday night.
  • A 14-year-old was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being shot in the back in the 9200 block of Wade Park Avenue on Sunday evening.
  • Another 3-year-old victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the buttocks and foot last Wednesday night in the 7200 block of Carson Avenue.
