61-year-old motorcyclist dies after striking median curb, ejecting from motorcycle

CLEVELAND — A 61-year-old man died Tuesday night after the motorcycle he was driving struck a raised median, causing him to lose control and eject from the motorcycle.

At about 8:45 p.m., the motorcycle was traveling west on the Memorial Shoreway near the West 25th Street ramp, according to Cleveland police. The driver struck the raised median curb, lost control and ejected.

The driver was found in the grass median next to a sign post. He was transported by EMS to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

The driver was identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office as Edward D. Schmitt, of Cleveland.
