A car with a child inside was stolen at a gas station at the intersection of Lee Road and Harvard Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at the Shell gas station around 2:20 p.m.

The 5-year-old boy was dropped off a short time later at the intersection of East 140th Street and Glendale Avenue, which is about one mile from the gas station.

The child was safe and has been reunited with the family.

Police are still looking for the suspects and the stolen red Hyundai Sonata with Michigan plates.

Authorities say a witness followed the stolen vehicle but the suspects inside fired a shot at the witness's vehicle.

A worker at the gas station told News 5 that the driver had just pulled up to the station and stepped out of the car when the suspects, who appeared to be in their late teens, jumped in and took off.

Police said the child was the nephew of the driver.

No other information was immediately available. This is a developing story. News 5 will update.
