A man accused of shooting at officers Friday night, prompting a search in Tremont, has been captured.

Officers responded to the area of Columbus Road and Abbey Avenue around 4:30 p.m. after a woman driving in the area reported that a man in another vehicle was threatening her with a gun.

When police arrived, the man, later identified as 20-year-old Derrick Lamar Anderson, took off.

The officers chased Anderson and he fired shots at them, police said. At least one officer returned fire.

No injuries were reported.

Police searched the area with K9s, a drone and helicopter.

Anderson was caught and taken into custody.

The standoff lasted for several hours and prompted the closure of several roads along the Tremont, Ohio City border. Police established a perimeter extending from Columbus Road to Willey Avenue and down to Train Avenue. In the search area was a day care, where witnesses say 50 children were inside.

An infant belonging to Anderson was in the vehicle when the man fled, police said.
