The City of Cleveland will honor the life and memory of Robert Godwin Sr. today by renaming the street he lived on with his name.

The street will be named “Robert Godwin, Sr. Way,” and friends and family will gather to recognize his lifetime of service he brought to his community.

"We want to honor the life of Mr. Godwin, Sr. for his love of community and for the care and concern he had for his neighbors on East 146th Street. It is his life, not his death, that we are happy to honor." said Councilman Jeff Johnson.

Godwin has been a fixture of the community since coming to Cleveland when he was 21 years old.

On Easter Sunday he was the victim of a tragic and senseless act of violence when his murder was posted to Facebook.

His killer later committed suicide.
