CLEVELAND — It’s World Giraffe Day, and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo revealed the name of its new male Masai giraffe calf that was born in April.

The zoo announced on Friday that the baby giraffe will be named “Kidogo,” which translates to “little” in Swahili.

The name was decided on by the public. The zoo held a poll on its website to decide what to name the calf. The other choices were Bomani and Mosi.

Kidogo is the first calf born at Cleveland Zoo since its breeding male Masai giraffe, Bo, arrived in 2017.

The calf was born on April 15, weighing 101 pounds and measuring around 6 feet tall.
