CLEVELAND — The Coast Guard will be increasing their patrol in Lake Erie this weekend.

Officials said they are increasing to help prevent boater deaths.

According to the Coast Guard, alcohol use remains the number one cause of boater death nationwide.

In 2019, law enforcement officers across the country issued a total of 9,524 citations and removed 563 impaired operators over Fourth of July weekend.

The increased patrol begins on Thursday.
