CLEVELAND — The death of a 17-year-old, who was found bleeding from the head on a tree lawn of a Cleveland home at the beginning of January, has been ruled a homicide, according to Cleveland police.

On Jan. 2, officers responded to the area of Avalon Road and Euclid Avenue for a male possibly shot or thrown from a vehicle. Police were flagged down by citizens who told police they heard one shot then looked outside to see the victim on the lawn.

The 17-year-old victim was found bleeding from the head on a tree lawn, police said.

The victim was taken to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as De'Von Leon, 17, of Dayton. He was pronounced dead on Jan. 15.

The incident was originally investigated as a felonious assault. The homicide unit of The Cleveland Division of Police has now taken over the investigation.
