CLEVELAND — In just a few weeks, homes across the country will start getting invitations in the mail to fill out the 2020 census.

The U.S. Census Bureau is urging people to include their young children in those forms.

The bureau said, historically, there has been an under count of children while collecting the census. They said it can impact the federal funding distributed for things like food assistance, child care, housing and schools.

"Please remember who's living under your roof, who's living in this household. It can be a friend of a child that's in that house, it can be - again, it doesn't necessarily have to be a biological relative or even a legal relationship," director of the Census Bureau Steven Dillingham said.

Census invitations will be sent out starting March 12.
