CLEVELAND — A driver was arrested and charged after a pursuit with East Cleveland police that ended with a crash into a utility pole on Lakeview Road Wednesday, according to a police report.

The crash ended just feet away from a fatal crash following a pursuit with East Cleveland police on Jan. 30, according to News 5 photojournalist Mike Vielhaber.

Just before 1 a.m. Wednesday, East Cleveland police attempted to stop a vehicle driving between lanes in the area of Superior and Hayden avenues.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle, it took off, running through several red lights and traveling at speed up to 70 mph on Euclid Avenue.

According to the report, when the driver turned onto Lakeview Road, it almost lost control.

As the driver continued down Lakeview Road, it eventually lost control and hit a utility pole on the right passenger’s side in the 600 block of Lakeview Road.

Once the vehicle stopped, the driver was ordered out of the vehicle and climbed out of the passenger’s seat.

The passenger, a 34-year-old female from Cleveland, was transported to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center for minor injuries.

The driver, a 39-year-old male from Cleveland, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor traffic citation for marked lanes and fleeing and eluding.
