CLEVELAND — A Euclid man pleaded not guilty to multiple charges Wednesday for causing the death of a toddler earlier this summer.

According to Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas records, Devon L. Mallory, 31, was indicted on Sept. 3 on charges of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, involuntary manslaughter, domestic violence and two counts of endangering children. He pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday morning.

The indictment states that Mallory purposely caused the death of the 18-month-old.

A Euclid police report states that on July 25, officers responded to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital to talk with staff members and family about an unresponsive child brought to the hospital.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled the child’s death a homicide. The cause of death was determined to be anoxic encephalopathy, cerebral edema and cerebral necrosis.

Mallory is being held in jail in lieu of a $1 million bond. He has a pretrial conference scheduled for Sept. 16., according to court records.
