Cleveland firefighters battled flames in a home at the corner of West 143rd Street and Sprengel Avenue just after 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
Neighbors told newsnet5.com the home has been empty for about 18 months and is currently for sale.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about 10 minutes but not before the home suffered heavy smoke damage.
Neighbors also said this was the second fire of the night in the neighborhood. Around 1:10 a.m. the dumpsters behind Ascension Elementary School on Purtias Avenue had to be extinguished by Cleveland firefighters.
The cause of both fires are under investigation.
