Man arrested for assaulting girlfriend and her 7-month-old infant on Cleveland's east side

A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and her infant Friday afternoon on the east side of Cleveland.

According to Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority police, SWAT was called to an apartment building on the 2900 block of Cedar Avenue around 1 p.m. for a man with weapons inside. After a short standoff, the man was taken into custody.

The mother was treated for minor injuries and the 7-month-old was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital for head injuries. The infant was last reported to be in stable condition.

Police have not released the name of the man or his charges.
