A man who was shot in the front yard of a Brook Park home before his alleged shooter barricaded himself inside, prompting a standoff Saturday evening, has died.

James Nelson, 40, of Cleveland was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.

Nelson was shot in Brook Park around 7 p.m. Saturday.

The man who allegedly shot him, 37-year-old Karl Adkins, then barricaded himself inside the home.

Richard Road was closed in the area due to the police activity.

After about six hours of attempting to contact him, the police sent a robot into the home. Adkins was located and it appeared he had taken his own life with a handgun.
