A man was struck and killed by an RTA bus on I-90 eastbound between West 117th and West 140th.
The man was identified as Andrew J. Shubic, 48, of North Ridgeville, by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
The incident happened about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
It is unclear how or why Shubic was on the highway.
Earlier reports from Cleveland police said the person was a female.
Cleveland EMS were at the scene and I-90 eastbound was closed on West 117th and West 140th for hours.
The RTA released a statement Thursday night about the incident:
An accident is under investigation involving an RTA bus that was headed east on I-90 near West 140th and West 117th. Cleveland Police are reporting that a person ran in front of the bus on the highway.
The accident is being treated as a fatality, and the County Coroner has been called to the scene.
No other details are known at this time.
No passengers were on the bus, and the bus operator was not injured.
The No. 55 bus had just departed from the Triskett bus garage and had begun its route east.
