Police investigating homicide after 18-year-old shot, killed in downtown Cleveland

CLEVELAND — Cleveland police are investigating a homicide after an 18-year-old man was shot in Downtown Cleveland early Sunday morning.

Around 1:20 a.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Prospect Avenue, outside of the Residence Inn Hotel, for reports of shots fired.

Once on scene, police found the 18-year-old man inside of a Jeep Liberty that had crashed into a pole across from the hotel. The man had multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body, police said.

After officer rendered first aid to the man, EMS transported him to MetroHealth Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Police learned on the scene that the man had been at a party inside of the hotel. The man left with a group and an altercation ensued between his group and another group outside, leading to an exchange of gunfire, police said.

Authorities seized narcotics and a gun on the scene, according to police.

No arrests have been made at this time.

The incident remains under investigation.
